Our Unconscious Mind stores or ‘codes’ memories in a way that knows the difference between a memory from last week and that of one from 10 years ago. It also knows the difference between a memory from our past and that of a future projection.
Aristotle (384-322 BCE.) first referred to time being Linear or Mechanical compared to Organic Time, and described it as being a “point in motion along a line”. Also in his book Physics IV, is mentioned the “stream of time”.
In 1890 in his ‘Principles of Psychology’, William James (the father of American Psychology), referred to the constitution of consciousness as like a “string of bead-like sensations and images all separate…” Yet it was not till the late to early 1980’s that front runners in the development of NLP revived the concept of linear memory storage.
In 1985, NLP Master Trainer and creator of Time Line Therapy™, Dr Tad James, M.S., Ph.D., started applying a therapeutic process to the concept of time storage at the unconscious level. As a result, he published his discovery in the book ‘Time Line Therapy™ and the Basis of Personality’.
